Salvia leucantha Ferpink PP 21734
(aka: Salvia ‘Danielle’s Dream’, ‘Pink Velour’) Salvia ‘Ferpink’ is a color breakthrough in the popular Mexican Salvia leucantha. Salvia leucantha ‘Ferpink’, however, comes to us from the garden of South Africa’s Ian Smith, who discovered Salvia ‘Ferpink’ as a seedling in his garden. For us, Salvia leucantha ‘Ferpink’ makes a 3′ tall x 6′ wide clump in one season topped, starting in late September (NC), with terminal flower spikes composed of silver white calyces that hold the pink flowers. We find that the early flowers are small, but they increase in size as flowering continues, putting on quite a fall show. Dry winter soils are the key to good survival in cold climates.
