Phlox Sileniflora
Forget everything you know about phlox before you look at this plant. Phlox ‘Sileniflora’ is an introduction of the late rock garden guru Linc Foster, who thought it might be a hybrid of P. subulata. We’ll leave that debate to the experts, but to us, it looks like a creeping phlox whose head was shaved by an inebriated Britney Spears. The miniature needles are tightly congested, producing a small, 6″ wide clump of foliage. In mid-spring, the clumps are topped with tiny, pure white flowers. Plant this in a special place in the rock garden, and take a GPS reading so you can actually find it again.
