Iris japonica Skirt Chaser
(aka: Iris japonica Signa 03S263 ex) Iris japonica ‘Skirt Chaser’ is a selection we named and introduced in 2012 from a batch of Iris japonica seed that we planted in 2004 from The American Iris Society’s species group. Iris japonica is often shy to flower but this clone is quite the exception, with dozens of 18″ tall branched stalks that top the evergreen mat of foliage starting in late March and continuing through April. The flowers are the darkest of any named clone we’ve seen…dark blue-purple with a yellow, white, and dark purple patterned eye zone. As with most Iris japonica, Iris ‘Skirt Chaser’ spreads rapidly via rhizomes just below the mulch surface, easily forming a six-foot-wide patch in 6 years.
