Iris japonica Porcelain Maiden
(aka: Iris japonica EDHCH 97241) Iris japonica ‘Porcelain Maiden’ is an Eric Hammond collection of Iris japonica from near Baoxing in Sichuan, China, which was subsequently introduced in 2000 by Heronswood Nursery as Iris confusa. Dan agreed with our name of Iris ‘Porcelain Maiden’ for this wonderful clone. Like all Iris japonica, Iris ‘Porcelain Maiden’ is insanely vigorous, making an incredible groundcover to 5′ wide in 5 years and 10′ wide in 10 years. In spring, the evergreen patches are topped with 2′ tall branching spikes, ending in lovely white flowers with a lavender blush just below the eyezone.
