Helleborus sahinii Winterbells PP 24434
Helleborus x sahinii ‘Winterbells’ is one of the most unique hybrids in the history of the hellebore world…the first recorded success of the “impossible” cross of Helleborus niger and the distantly related Helleborus foetidus. Helleborus x sahinii was named after its discoverer and PDN customer, the late Dutch seedsman extraordinaire, Kees Sahin. Our 2011 planted clump of the evergreen Helleborus x sahinii ‘Winter Bells’ has made a 15″ tall x 2′ wide clump of dark green, hand-like, lenten rose foliage topped, starting in mid-January (NC), with cinnamon flower stalks ending in pendent flowers…creamy pink backs and green inside. Helleborus x sahinii will never go down as being the most stunning hellebore, but it is unquestionably the most unique. Since the original cross was so wide there is no chance for offspring from seed.
