Eucomis Leia
Eucomis ‘Leia’ was the first in the recent hybridizing efforts for short, compact pineapple lilies. Eucomis ‘Leia’ comes from Garden State Bulb Growers and I agree with Dr. John Grimshaw who assumes it to be a hybrid between Eucomis zambesiaca and Eucomis vandermerwei. The fast-offsetting rosettes eventually form a 15″ wide compact clump topped, starting in early July, with 10″ spikes of dark pink-lavender buds, opening to equally saturated flowers. Eucomis ‘Leia’ is a truly stunning breakthrough in pineapple lily breeding.
