Dryopteris filix mas Linearis Polydactyla
Dryopteris ‘Linearis Polydactyla’ is an old English selection of Dryopteris filix-mas, which shares a native range of both North America and Europe. The common name, slender crested male fern, sounds like one of fancy royal folks with four names and a hyphen! This open-growing, deciduous male fern selection produces 3′ tall fronds with an airy texture. At the end of each leaf is a forked pinnule…it splits in two. Each frond also ends in a cute little petticoat. This darling mingler is superb when blended with other bold textured woodland inhabitants like hostas.
