Aspidistra vietnamensis Garden Gallery
I picked this cast iron plant up on my 2005 Thailand visit to Mr. Jiew’s Nursery in Bangkok. In growth and appearance, it is similar to Aspidistra vietnamensis ‘Ginga’, except that the spots on Aspidistra ‘Speckled Thai’ are slightly more yellow. Expect an 18″ tall clump on maturity…superb as a houseplant, or great in the ground in the Deep South, where it doesn’t die back. For us, Aspidistra vietnamensis ‘Speckled Thai’ has survived into the low teens F, but dies to the ground each winter.
