Asarum sp Rebs Child
Asarum ‘Reb’s Child’ is a fascinating wild ginger, collected by Plant Delights customer Reb Lappi near her home in Chapel Hill. Reb’s collection is from a now extirpated (extinct) small and very disjunct population of the coastal form of Asarum virginicum that forms a very small patch to 3″ tall x 1′ wide in 6 years. The 1.75″ wide, round evergreen leaves are very reminiscent of the Asian Asarum takaoi. The small basal flowers are produced sparingly below the foliage in midwinter…a cute plant and the perfect size for a small fairy garden.
