Asarum fauriei var takaoi Pitter Patter
This 2017 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction is a Japanese wild ginger that we received in 2009 as Asarum variegatum, but have since come to discover it is actually a form of Asarum fauriei var. takaoi. We were so taken with unique vivid pattern and vigor of this splendid selection, we’ve christened it Asarum ‘Pitter Patter’. For us Asarum ‘Pitter Patter’ has formed a low-growing evergreen mat to only 1″ tall, but to 2′ wide in 7 years. The silver dollar-sized leaves are deep green with large central silver patterns in each leaf. In late winter, lift the skirt of leaves for an exciting purple peep show of tiny flowers.
