Agave schidigera Shiraito no hi
(aka: Agave filifera ‘Compacta Marginata’) Agave ‘Shiraito no ÅŒhi’ is an amazing, but painfully slow-growing century plant, that has been circulated in the collectors’ market for several years, always at ridiculously high prices, since it doesn’t make offsets. The 15″ tall x 22″ wide rosette is composed of dark green leaves, each highlighted by a dramatic creamy-white border, curly white hairs, and converging pointed white bands on the reverse. The solitary (non-offsetting) Agave ‘Shiraito no ÅŒhi’ makes a lovely variegated specimen where winter hardy, and a dramatic container specimen in parts north. If anyone knows where this clone originated (probably Japan), we’d love to know.
