Agave lophantha Miniskirt
Agave ‘Miniskirt’ is a 2017 Plant Delights Nursery introduction that we discovered at PDN in 2013 as a dwarf mutation in a batch of Agave lophantha ‘Splendida’. We were thrilled as the mutation created a dwarf, 8″ tall x 18″ wide mound of tightly held 5″ wide rosettes. Each clump of Agave ‘Miniskirt’ forms a skirted teepee-like effect of fast-offsetting, glaucous, blue-green rosettes, each adorned with a muted, wide, central yellow band. Agave lophantha ‘Miniskirt’ is perfect for a small rock garden or in a container for those without ground space. So far, our garden specimen has survived winter low temperatures of 9 degrees F, but because of its small size and inability to shed water, it is critical that Agave ‘Miniskirt’ be kept dry in the garden during the winter months.
