Agave gentryi
Agave gentryi is a recently named species of agave from northern Mexico that has performed wonderfully for us in our moist East Coast garden. Agave gentryi makes a very structural, 3′ tall x 5′ wide mound of glossy green, deeply-channeled foliage with upturned tips. The dramatic, large black spines are also quite attractive…unless you back into them accidentally. We have found that Agave gentryi prefers dry soils in the cold, wet, winter months. Agave gentryi is named from the legendary Agave guru, the late Howard Scott Gentry. This offering is grown from seed from a plant that flowered at California’s Ruth Bancroft Garden.
