Adiantum capillus veneris Alabama Lace
(aka: Adiantum capillus-veneris Alabama form) Adiantum capillus-veneris ‘Alabama Lace’ is an amazingly vigorous selection of the southern maidenhair fern, discovered by the late native plant guru Weesie Smith of Alabama. Adiantum capillus-veneris ‘Alabama Lace’ looks like the typical southern maidenhair fern with its lacy fronds atop 1′ tall black stems, except this selection spreads far faster and grows denser than any other form we have seen. In good soil and average to damp moisture conditions, expect a 3′ wide patch in 2 years…great as a horticultural undergarment in the woodland garden. For us, it remains evergreen until Christmas time.
