Baptisia minor Blue Pearls
From our 1998 North Texas seed collections of the native Baptisia minor, we selected Baptisia ‘Blue Pearls’ for its floriferous nature and superb form. Typically, Baptisia minor is a sparse-flowered species with 3-8 flower spikes per clump, but a mature deer-resistant clump of Baptisia ‘Blue Pearls’ produces over fifty, 3′ tall flower spikes of light blue flowers that well exceed the 26″ foliage. After flowering, the foliage expands, making a beautiful fine-textured 2′ wide mound for the summer. In late summer, the large black pods that top the clump add to the ornamental value.
