Adiantum capillus veneris Michigan Hardy
We purchased this form of the southern maidenhair fern from Siskiyou Rare Plant Nursery many years ago but have been unable to track down its original location in Michigan. This form makes a much smaller clump than the more vigorous forms farther south. The shiny black stipes are adorned with dainty green pinnae. Adiantum capillus-veneris prefers a rich, moist soil where in 5 years, it should form an 18″ wide patch. This form has proved to be extremely difficult to propagate from spores, so quantities are limited.
