Epimedium ilicifolium
(aka: Epimedium ilicifolium Cc 001497/PDN001) We are very pleased to offer the recently published (1998) fairy wing species, Epimedium ilicifolium. Our plants are from a Darrell Probst collection above the snowline at 5,000’+ elevation in China’s Shaanxi province. Epimedium ilicifolium was named for its foliar resemblance to the holly genus, Ilex. Epimedium ilicifolium makes a delightfully unique small clump to only 1′ tall x 18″ wide. The medium green, spiny foliage is topped, starting in late March, with 18″ long flower spikes, each laden with 25-30 large spidery flowers composed of yellow spurs and an inner chartreuse cup. Epimedium ilicifolium is truly one of the most unique species in the genus epimedium.
